People usually say that running a business is just like running a marathon. But only the ones who have gone through a marathon can truly understand such similarities.

Coming back to the race after 20 months on hiatus, I felt very clearly the necessity of preparation, especially frequent practices and planning. It was also crucial to control my pace. Instead of running as fast as I could in the beginning, I purposely slowed down to reserve my energy and stamina for a long and steady journey. And finally, I was reminded of the importance of willpower. When things got tough and my body got hurt at every step, I needed to constantly remind me of why I started in the first place and the rewards that are waiting for me at the end of the race to keep myself going on, putting one foot before another.

Those practices are highly applicable in running a business. And that’s why I set goals to join at least 4 more marathons this year, not only to gain a healthy lifestyle but also to keep learning those valuable lessons again and again. Because learning to run a business effectively is also just like running a marathon.
